Sailor & I

Turn Around EP
Release Date: June 30th
Purchase: iTunes

“Sailor & I is a metaphor for two wills inside a person that are fighting against one another. It is part of most peoples’ everyday lives. It’s interesting because there are times people do things they don’t want to do, but they can’t stop doing it for some reason.”

~Alexander Sjodin, Sailor & I

Sailor & I – Turn Around (Âme Remix)

I discovered Swedish producer, vocalist and musician, Alexander Sjodin, last summer when I first heard “Tough Love.” This tune was softly melancholy and powerful, but with his newest release, “Turn Around,” this track has easily become my summer anthem. I first heard it played at Output last weekend in Brooklyn, when Scarlett Etienne performed and DJ’d to a packed house alongside Lee Foss and Anabel EnglundI want to hear this when I’m floating down the East River with my friends dancing into the sunset. DJ Koze, hear my prayer for July 3rd!

The acoustic version is absolutely beautiful…

Litl Biird

John Magee / Litl Biird – “Little Birds” Live

I had the pleasure of meeting Litl Biird, aka John Magee, last weekend through my dear friend, Abel. John is sweet and random and zany, which automatically drives me to friendship. He’s also an amazing vocalist and pianist. His music is beautiful- very soothing, very healing, and I believe you will not be disappointed if you have a listen for yourself on Soundcloud

The three of us spent Sunday together strolling around Brooklyn with no particular plan, aside from calling our dads (Father’s Day). We drank coconut milk and tanned by the water whilst watching a young female yogi stretch her body in several challenging positions for middle-aged women’s husbands. Later, we “booth-danced” to 90’s hip-hop at La Esquina, and enjoyed a few cocktails before we bid adieu. I truly had a relaxing and wonderful day with these two exceptional humans pictured below. Don’t let their faces fool you, they are not that serious…all of the time.

Litl Biird is playing Thursday, June 19th, in Brooklyn, so please join us! It’s supposed to rain and what better way to spend a rainy warm evening than a chance to decompress and be calm with the waves of ethereal music? I hope to see you there.

This song makes me feel like I’m stepping onto a magic carpet…

Forthcoming release on Editions Mego June 24, 2014.

Edvard Graham Lewis – “We’ve Lost Your Mind”

I keep pressing repeat. This is a beautiful remix of Lust for Youth’s forthcoming LP “International” on Sacred Bones Records. It’s moody and dark yet sweet. This song feels special to me because it’s familiar– not the melody but the memory.

I was about to close this post but then started listening to Danny Daze’s “Silicon Remixes” on Jimmy Edgar’s label, ULTRAMAJIC. This is going to keep me awake a bit longer. Release Date: May 26 2014. I also keep hitting repeat on this one. This is what I’ve been looking for. Check out all of the remixes on Soundcloud but for those who know me, know how much I love Erika, so of course I’ve featured her Spaced Out remix but they are ALL SO GOOD.

Unknown Precept released the The Black Ideal compilation a year ago but I’m only now discovering it. Featuring artists such as AnD, Shifted and Ancient Methods, to name a few. The track featured below is a preview of Violetshaped’s “Black Wisdom” whom I discovered through Silent Servant.

This will F you up.
Ingen (UK) and Boris Noiz (Serbia) properly titled this EP “Rituals” because I feel like I just gave blood listening to the preview. I think if you like this type of music you can understand that’s a good thing.

I just discovered Machine Woman tonight and I am enjoying her personality on this podcast so much. She’s so chill and quirky and has excellent taste. I could hang with this girl. She also led me to discovering Ingen. Definitely check out her podcast SONIC DISTURBANCES which is featured once a month on Seance Radio (another favorite). SONIC DISTURBANCES is “dedicated to the lovers of the darker, deeper sonic creations out there.” She’s also makes it quite easy to search the tracks.

Louisahhh!!!’s deep remix and vocals over French trio dOP’s “Close Up” is so effortlessly sexy but there is also this purity to it. She makes sexy feel so clean. It’s quite beautiful. The Catz’n Dogz Remix is excellent as well.

I’ll leave you with NO WEAPON IS ABSOLUTE #2 which is I’m a Cliche’s bi-monthly radio show on Rinse FM France. There’s quite an impressive track list with the likes of Front 242, Patrick Cowley, Conrad Schnitzler, Legowelt etc. I appreciate it when track lists are provided. It removes my anxiety. It keeps me up at night when I can’t find a song. Freaking brutal. Share.

Purchase here soon: Juno or on Amazon (CD)

Friends, do NOT SLEEP ON THIS.
As if we weren’t already impressed with Psyk’s previous two EP releases on Mote-Evolver, Distane (2012) and Arcade (2013), Psyk, aka Maan, aka Manuel Anós, is back pumping heartbeats again with his first full-length album “Time Foundation.”

Emotional. Textured. Intelligent. Precise. Take the journey. Maybe I’ll catch you in a warehouse somewhere dancing in the dark.

There is an excellent review of the entire album here:

“Time Foundation proves to be an outstanding collection that shows the full spectrum of Psyk’s sound and the range of skills as he expands and explores different depths and moods. Keeping the energy level constant at the peak, there’s no downtime in “Time Foundation”. And while 10 sharp-cut tracks are all armed with clean, streamlined groove and impressive sound design therefore may sound incredibly slick and effortless, once you listened closely – and they will demand your attention – that kind of breezing through swift force is only the byproduct of Psyk’s high caliber production ability to map out meticulous structures with a great detail.”

Episode 1 ‘The Spacestation’ Radio Show (27th Jan 2014)

May 2nd

Mängelexemplar - Minimal Sound

I created this post because one of my favorite things to do is listen to music and watch space documentaries or sci-fi films or anything mystical/fantastical etc. My parents appropriately nicknamed me “Spacey Casey” as a child. I was always daydreaming and inventing games to play by myself…hence the social awkwardness sometimes. I have fun hanging out by myself though and it actually just occurred to me as I’m typing this. But I love spending time with friends too. Balance.

Today on the train, a girl with amazing shoes asked me if my bottom eyelashes were real because they’re very long. I said “yes” and then proceeded to tell her that they might be long because when I was a kid I used to put miniature butterfly clips on them and it was really painful and would pull out my lashes and they must have grown in longer due to stimulation…but then I told her it might just be genetic. She was like, “yeah probably genetic.”

WHY DID I EVEN SAY THAT? Who says that? Maybe I’m a bit “off” today. May as well go with it.

Anyway, enjoy your Friday. THE WEEKEND IS UPON US. The music selection is a bit scattered (just like me today) ranging from techno, industrial, new wave, acid, post-punk, dark wave, electronic…

Jeremy Forson

“There are so many hammocks to catch you if you fall, so many laws to keep you from experience. All these cities I have been in the last few weeks make me fully understand the cozy, stifling state in which most people pass through life. I don’t want to pass through life like a smooth plane ride. All you do is get to breathe and copulate and finally die. I don’t want to go with the smooth skin and the calm brow. I hope I end up a blithering idiot cursing the sun – hallucinating, screaming, giving obscene and inane lectures on street corners and public parks. People will walk by and say, “Look at that drooling idiot. What a basket case.” I will turn and say to them “It is you who are the basket case. For every moment you hated your job, cursed your wife and sold yourself to a dream that you didn’t even conceive. For the times your soul screamed yes and you said no. For all of that. For your self-torture, I see the glowing eyes of the sun! The air talks to me! I am at all times!” And maybe, the passers by will drop a coin into my cup.”
